What are the statewide initiatives on my ballot?
Three initiatives — I-645, I-001, and I-638 — will appear on the ballot for all Washington voters this November.
Families in Washington are struggling to pay for food, housing, and healthcare, but none of these initiatives help solve those problems. Instead, they give tax cuts to the wealthy, put LGBTQ+ kids in danger, and force invasive sex checks on all girls who want to play sports.
Who is behind these initiatives?
These initiatives are being backed by mega-millionaire Brian Heywood, who wants to institute his MAGA agenda on all of us by cutting taxes for millionaires like him, cutting funding for education, and putting all K-12 school students at risk. This is the same guy who tried to pass initiatives in 2024 and failed. He’s back again and we at Defend Washington won’t let him win.
How should I vote on I-645?
You should vote NO on I-645.
I-645 repeals Washington’s Millionaires Tax, eliminating over $13 billion in funding for education and healthcare by giving a tax break to the state's richest 1%. It raises costs for Washington families, raises taxes on small businesses, and takes away tax rebates and free school meals for kids.
How should I vote on I-001?
You should vote NO on I-001.
This initiative puts child abuse victims at greater risk, forces schools to “out” LGBTQ+ kids, removes parents’ rights to immediate notification of crimes, and worsens student mental health by removing commonsense record protections. That’s why it is opposed by the WA State PTA, domestic violence experts, teachers, parents, and counselors.
How should I vote on I-638?
You should vote NO on I-638.
I-638 is the most extreme MAGA initiative of its kind in the country. Opposed by the WA State Nurses Association, League of Women Voters, WA State PTA, and Planned Parenthood, it would require invasive sex inspections on tens of thousands of girls who want to play elementary, middle, and high school sports, all to exclude 5-10 trans girls from participation. Tellingly, boys are exempt from these new, humiliating requirements.

Defend Washington is a coalition of hundreds of teachers, parents, healthcare providers, union members, advocates, and working people from across Washington working together to stop mega-millionaire Brian Heywood from forcing his MAGA agenda onto our state. As a mega-donor to MAGA and Trump, Heywood is trying, again, to institute his personal beliefs on our schools and families.
